Year of Helvetica

It seems like it's the year of the Swiss typeface Helvetica. The documentary film on the famous font appeared a few months back. Now Blanka has this spectacular poster collection celebrating 50 years of Helvetica. And these are my favorites:

 

phenomenal design

While I was uploading some of my Singapore pictures from April, I stumbled on this name board signage for the digital art and design company Phenomenon. A phenomenally visual use of some generic everyday icons to spell a name.

The word 'graphic design' was first coined by the American type designer, calligrapher and book designer William Addison Dwiggins in 1922. He also designed the typefaces Electra and Caledonia.
