Chris Riley has this realistic observation about flying here:
"You know, I remember when air travel was glamorous. I dreamed of it as
I waited for the bus to take me to school. Now flying out and in to SJC
feels exactly like waiting for the bus. I guess the planes are less
comfortable than Manchester double deckers. Oh well. Life can be a
series of disappointments I suppose."
Working on an airline account, I would like to think otherwise, but having to go through the pangs of air travel every once in a while, I couldn't agree more with Chris on how my childhood dream of flying has bitten the dust. Nowadays I long to be in a Southern Indian Railway express looking out the window and see the paddy fields and scenery whiz by while sipping hot tea.
I wonder with the resergence in air travel in the emerging Asia, how long before the novelty of air travel wears off people and they decide not to fly if given the option. And will that provide some hope for the planet.
